The Road to Hell Fun Facts

My original idea for The Road to Hell was to make Luke a sort of vigilante who exposed false prophets. The story took a turn in another direction while I was writing it, and I think it is a better story than I originally imagined.

Ryan and Samantha Bannon bear a striking resemblance to me and my wife. Our life together is spontaneous and sometimes messy and chaotic, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Young Mike and Sophia were modeled after my paternal grandparents who met while ice skating. And yes, my grandmother is very spunky and still full of youthfulness.

I purposely made every meal that Mike and Luke had together into a feast. While it may seem gluttinous, I felt it was important to show that they were celebrating the time they had together, much like the Mary with her ‘extravagant waste’ of praise for Jesus.

This book was inspired by what I felt was a watering down of the gospel message of Jesus Christ by many in the American church. It is disconcerting that so many have compromised their faith on the definition or consequences of sin. If sin or hell does not exist then what exactly are we being saved from through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ?
